Just days ago I was sitting in the backseat staring out the window at the snow-capped mountains and the sun shining down on the snow. It created a glowing look which provided unique hues to the white color. The breeze was cold, whether intense or not, it made my cheeks, nose and ears feel icy cold. Rather than run in for shelter I enjoyed staying out braving the colder temperatures as I bundled up and grabbed a mug of hot tea, wrapping my palms around the mug and allowing the heat to seep into my body.
The cooler weather was such a nice refreshing change from the usual heat and humidity of my city. The closer you get to snowy mountains though, the further away you get from urban life. I travelled unpaved roads and trekked on rocky paths. The rocks and pebbles were rougher and large in size. I saw the cold desert. Miles of pristine white sand at elevations unusual to deserts.
Then I flew home. I left behind the mountains and the cold desert to warmer temps and warm desert-like surroundings. Only this desert was close to the ocean and not mountains. When I think about it now, how blessed this country of mine is. I always imagined deserts to be miles of intense heat. Long stretches of nothingness in scorching temperatures. The deserts here are special. While they may have all the harshness that comes with the definition of being a desert, they are so close to nature’s natural relief, the snow and the sea.
As I drove past dry patches of brown sand headed for the seaside, I couldn’t help but remember that just a few days ago I was driving through patches of white sand in the cold desert. Today, instead of fluffy snow I got to see foamy waves crashing ashore. Just as calming and serene was the sight of the Himalayan mountains so too is the sight of the blue green waters of the Indian Ocean.
Today I grabbed a mug of tea and sat back as the cool ocean breeze hit my face. It’s strange how relaxing tea feels whether it’s hot or cold. In this moment I am thinking maybe it’s got nothing to do with the tea. It’s got to do with the scenery in front of me. The sky, the sun and from the mountain to the sea nature is calming and relaxing and I am blessed to be able to experience both.
While reading this I am actually getting goosebumps and the yearning to go on the mountains becomes so intense.Yes we have been blessed with such a varied topography from the mountains to the desert to the sea.So much to see and so much to experience :)
