Coming home
No matter how great vacations are, coming home is the best part. There is no doubt that a change of pace, some different scenery and a new environment gives the mind a welcome break from the everyday routine thoughts that take up so much of our thinking time and space. However, when you get back home somehow your mind gets a sense of peace that cannot be found anywhere else.
Your own bedroom. Even the most seven-star accommodations will not provide you with the comfort of your own bed. The familiarity of your own pillow and the welcome scent of your own bed linen. You sleep like a baby and awake wondering, “was I really that tired or was it really that uncomfortable?”
Your own bathroom. Aaah. Finally one that hasn’t been used by anyone but you! Just the kind of clean that suits you! Everything is placed just where you need it to be. A space you can manœuvre yourself in blindly because you know this space like the back of your hand. Wrapping yourself in your own towel as you step out of the shower where the force of the water is one you are used to therefore leaving you feeling clean in a most unique way.
Your very own kitchen. There is nothing like home cooked food. You instantly want to grasp your favorite mug and make yourself a cup of coffee or tea and sit back relaxing. No ordering food and having to choose from a menu card. Just open the refrigerator and half the hunger disappears just from the familiarity of it all! So you grab an apple and head to the couch.
Your own lounge. You sink into your favorite spot on the couch and your body sinks into its familiar position. You grab the remote and flick on the TV to your favorite channel and watch what relaxes you the most.
Your own laundry room. Emptying the dirty contents of your suitcase into the washing machine is possibly the best feeling. In a matter of hours you have fresh smelling clean laundry and as you air out your suitcase and prepare to store it away no longer needing to live out of that two and half feet by one and a half feet space! Some nicely ironed clothes and ample hangers to store your clothes away.
So when the unpacking is done and you are back to your routine, it’s nice to know you are back. The mind is ready to revert back to its own routine as well. The welcome break has been taken and now it’s back to the grind. The kind of grind that you have set for your very own life.
